Emergency Room in Larnaca: Where to Go and What GeSY Covers

07 Nov 2026

Larnaca's A&E under GeSY, what to bring, private options, and when a personal doctor or duty pharmacy is the better first stop. Includes tips for travellers.

In a life-threatening emergency, call 112 (or 199) for an ambulance. Chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of a stroke, heavy bleeding or a seriously injured or unwell child: call first, do not drive around.

Larnaca has one emergency department inside GeSY (ΓεΣΥ, the national health system): the Larnaca General Hospital. That makes the choice simple, and it also means it pays to know the alternatives for problems that are urgent but not emergencies.

The A&E in Larnaca that works with GeSY

According to GeSY's official provider search (checked in October 2026):

The list changes from time to time. You can confirm it on the GeSY provider search: choose Healthcare Service Providers, then the category Accident & Emergency Department.

Private clinics in Larnaca

Private hospitals and clinics in Larnaca may see urgent cases, but at the time of writing none of them runs a GeSY-contracted A&E. If you go to one, ask before you are seen whether the visit is covered by GeSY or charged privately, and how much it costs.

Using GeSY at the A&E

If you are a GeSY beneficiary, you do not need a referral for A&E, and a small co-payment may apply (ask at reception or the GeSY contact centre, 17000). Say "I am a GeSY beneficiary" and show your ID or residence card.

Travelling through Larnaca airport?

Visiting from another EU country? Bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and ask at reception how it applies. Visitors from outside the EU should check what their travel insurance covers and keep its emergency number at hand.

Not every urgent problem needs A&E

What to bring

  • ID card, passport or residence card (and your EHIC or travel insurance details).
  • A list of the medicines you take and any allergies.
  • Your phone and a charger.
